Le cinquième element
France
Synopsis
The 23rd century. In a strange and colourful universe where all hope of survival is impossible without the discovery of the Fifth Element, an unusual hero confronts evil to save mankind.
---
The opening film of this year's Cannes Film Festival, The Fifth Element is a futuristic mythological action film set in the 23rd century. Earth finds itself in the path of a huge, fiery planet - a cancerous anti-life force trying to extinguish the positive life force ie. the human race - and conventional weapons are impotent to stop it.
Survival is impossible without the discovery of the 'Fifth Element' and the task of seeking this out falls to an unusual hero, Korben Dallas (Bruce Willis), driver of a New York flying cab, into whose vehicle a genetically regenerated young woman escapes. With the help of a high priest, the pair must battle the villainous Zorg, who is equipping fearsome animal mercenaries for the ultimate battle, which will take place on a cruise ship in outer space.
