CUERDAS

Spain

Synopsis

Rita belongs to a women’s choir which is in danger of breaking up because they’ve lost the municipal subsidy that allowed them renting their rehearsal room. Now the group has to decide whether or not to accept sponsorship by one of the companies causing the most pollution in the valley.

Director's Statement

I am interested in exploring the silence that Rita inhabits, whose expressions, actions and movements are filled with meaning. The choir will be the symbolic space in which Rita will perform her bow and learn to project her voice so that it becomes clearer and reaches further. Through the sound of the conversations (sometimes lively, sometimes confrontational), the music, or the diaphragmatic breaths they take, Rita will exercise that voice that will end up expressing itself only at the end.

CHORDS is a story that combines the documentary basis through real characters and locations, with the fictional narrative and film device that allows us to access the most intimate dimension that makes this story something universal that transcends the local scope.
