JOY is a story about a 17-year-old girl who has gone missing. The film is a police reconstruction of Joy’s last known movements in a local park. By the time the reconstruction is ended it is clear that the film is more
than just a reconstruction of a teenager’s last movements but rather a meditation on the fragility of youth.

Over the past four years, Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor have been working on “Civic Life” which involved local community groups in the production of nine short films for the cinema, shot on 35mm cinemascope making extensive use of the long take. In 2004, their film WHO KILLED BROWN OWL won the award for Best British Short Film at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. HELEN, their debut feature film, is the culmination of the
“Civic Life” series.
