Synopsis

Brothers and sons who live abroad build identical houses to express the equality and unity in family. An empathetic portrait of the families that, by economic necessity, need to live much of their lives separated and in cultures not their own.

Director's Statement

I am very happy to be the first Kosovar filmmaker to be able to present my short film to the members of the European Film Academy. It's an honour to be part of this select group of short films already and hope this can be the start of a great journey.

Director's Biography

Born in 1977 in Prizren, Kosovo, Samir Karahoda began working as a photographer in 1992. In 2003, he completed his Photography studies at the Academy of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in Istanbul, where he is currently pursuing a master's degree. His works have been published in many international media, galleries and festivals and he had four personal photography exhibitions. In addition to his work as a photographer, he is also a cinematographer, tutor and curator of the short film program at the DokuFest International Documentary Film Festival in Prizren. He has also curated several programs for different film festivals focusing on shorts from the Balkans. His documentary short film IN BETWEEN is his directorial debut. It had its world premiere at the Berlinale as the first Kosovar film to compete at this festival and is furthermore a candidate for the European Film Academy Award in 2020. In 2020 he received the yearly cinema award from the Kosovar Ministry Of Culture as filmmaker of the year.
