Ping-Pongkingen

Sweden

Synopsis

Rille (16) is ostracised and bullied; a nobody. Everywhere, that is, except in the ping pong room. There he rules; he is the King of Ping Pong. His brother Erik (13) is charming, respected and loved by all. Despite the profound difference between them, they share the same blood; at least that is what they both believe. When they learn the truth about their father during their spring break, they become bitter adversaries engaged in a life and death struggle.

Director's Statement

THE KING OF PING PONG is a film about how the past has an unpleasant tendency of bouncing back at you, like some damn ping pong ball. I wanted to make a film about life's uphill struggle, about expectations and ways of looking at life. And about brothers and blood ties. My ambition has simply been to tell the truth. Whether or not I have succeeded others will have to decide. This film has been itching in my head for some time. And it has given me a few weeks of soothing harmony. I'm enjoying it while I can because I have a feeling that a new film could start itching at any moment.
