Synopsis

The Coen Brothers' latest started after The Hudsucker Proxy, and was then shelved until after Fargo, when two key actors - Coen regular John Goodman and newcomer Jeff Bridges - were not available. It's a Raymond Chandler tale, about that 98 per cent of Los Angeles which isn't Hollywood (as opposed to Barton Fink, which is about the 2 per cent that is), and it features Jeff Bridges as a dope-smoking sixties refugee known to one and all as 'The Dude', with John Goodman as his best friend, a Vietnam vet who has converted to Judaism, looks after his ex-wife's obnoxious little dog and is the kind of guy you pray you never sit next to on a plane. Things get a little more complicated when The Dude, whose real name is Lebowski, gets mistaken for another Lebowski with a lot of enemies and even more money.
