Synopsis

The film is an adventure-comedy about two uneducated cattle herders in Italy during the mid-1800s. While escaping from the police after an unsuccessful robbery attempt they meet up with bonaflde highwaymen, become involved in philosophical discussions witness the development of earth-shattering scientific inventions, fall in love, and for the first time in their lives consciously confront society's values and ideals. Although the two illiterate men don't quite understand everything they experience, they continue along their way true to the motto "you won't experience anything by standing still."
